How To Get Rid Of Cellulite

How To Get Rid Of Cellulite

You’ve slathered the dimples on your thighs with every cream on the market. Your dedication to dry brushing is worthy of a medal and only this morning you pummelled your buttocks with a massage roller that promised miracles. But is it ever going to make a difference?

If you’re wondering how to get rid of cellulite, at CelluClear we can help. However first, it’s important to understand the challenge you’re up against.

What is cellulite?

People refer to the appearance of their cellulite in different ways – from orange peel, to cottage cheese, to dimples. But essentially what you’re dealing with is an uneven texture or lumpy appearance to your skin.

Typically, cellulite is located in areas of your body where you naturally store more fat, such as thighs, stomachs and bottoms. It appears when the vertical tissues supporting your skin lose elasticity and start pulling down on the epidermis. This forces pockets of fat to bulge up through the CelluClear blog – How to get rid of cellulite gaps in the bands of tissues, protruding into the dermal layers above, and causing the dreaded dimpling effect on the skin’s surface.

The good news is that cellulite is harmless. Some orange peel skin on your thighs isn’t a symptom of any deep-rooted health issues. What’s more, there’s nothing wrong at all with having cellulite. As many as 90% of women are affected by unwanted dimpling, so if your thighs aren’t quite as smooth as you’d like, you’re in good company.

But feeling unhappy about cellulite is completely understandable too. Everyday, our CelluClear therapists speak to women who are too self-conscious to reveal their bodies even to their partners. And if cellulite is having this affect on your self-esteem, it’s only natural for you to want to explore ways to get rid of it.

Understanding the causes of cellulite

The cause of your cellulite probably isn’t as simple as being overweight. Some people are more prone to developing orange peel skin because it runs in their family (genes have a lot to answer for). Others get it because of changes in oestrogen levels. It can equally be blamed on age or even from being female.

The truth is there are a multitude of reasons for cellulite. And in most cases you have little control over what’s triggering the changes in your skin’s texture and tone. This helps to explain why it’s so difficult to get rid of cellulite and why it’s a source of such frustration for so many women.

Additionally, there are lifestyle habits that whilst aren’t the underlying cause of cellulite, they can definitely make it look a lot worse. This includes such things as being overweight, inactive and not drinking enough water. So when discussing how to get rid of cellulite, it’s important to recognise there are two methods of attack.

First, find a high impact treatment, and then maintain the results with lifestyle changes.

So how can you get rid of cellulite exactly?

Cellulite isn’t simply about your skin – it’s a structural problem. To have any chance of achieving a noticeable reduction in dimples, you need to find a cellulite treatment that targets deep beneath your skin to restore tissue elasticity. Creating a more flexible support structure for your skin is absolutely essential for noticeable, long-lasting results.

We’re not going to pretend CelluClear is the only cellulite treatment on the market. There are a range of options and we always advise people to do their homework. There are creams, laser therapies, surgical options, microneedling and energy-based technologies (such as CelluClear) to consider. This gives you the opportunity to select the method that you’re most comfortable with.

Things to consider when selecting a cellulite treatment

Before you dive in and sign yourself up for a treatment based on a few impressive before and after shots, we advise you dig a little deeper. It’s a good idea to consider the following things when you’re researching cellulite treatments…

  • What difference are you aiming for? The treatment that’s right for you will depend on the depth of your cellulite and the results you’re hoping to achieve. In short, if you have deep dimples and dreams of perfectly smooth thighs, a cream or exfoliating treatment offered by your local beauty salon probably isn’t going to deliver what you want.
  • How long will the results last? This varies considerably depending on the style of treatment.
  • Sometimes a procedure will need to be repeated regularly to maintain the effect. Other approaches, like CelluClear, deliver results that last for years with virtually no maintenance required.
  • What’s your pain threshold? If you wince at the thought of a needle, some of the treatments out there are going to cause you distress. Check out reviews for honest experiences.
  •  Are you prepared for any recovery time? Some cellulite treatments come with short-term side effects such as swelling, bruising and discomfort. Any recommended downtime should be factored in when considering treatments.
  • How much are you willing to pay? Make sure you’re completely clear on the costs involved and the likely total price of the treatment.

5 lifestyle changes that help keep cellulite at bay

Wobbling on a vibration platform every day isn’t the answer to how to get rid of cellulite. If only it were that simple. But there’s no doubt that there are lifestyle changes that will help prolong the appearance of smoother thighs post-treatment.

1. Drink plenty of water

Sipping through your recommended daily allowance of H2O has many health benefits. You can add being anti-cellulite to the list.

Drinking plenty of water is a great way to keep your skin hydrated giving it a fresh glow and a more youthful appearance. It also supports your body’s natural detox process by flushing out the toxins that can offer a helping hand to fat build-up. So all in all, ticking off your 1.5 litres per day provides welcome support in the fight against cellulite.

2. If you smoke, give it up

There’s research to show cigarette smoke can weaken the formation of collagen, which is very bad news for cellulite. In fact, one thing that makes the CelluClear cellulite treatment so effective is that it boosts the production of collagen.

In very simple terms, collagen gives your connective tissues their strength and elasticity. It also has a huge role in replacing and restoring dead and damaged skin cells. It’s certainly a hardworking little protein.

Unfortunately collagen production tends to slow down as we get older and also with changes in oestrogen levels. Yes, two things that are largely out of our control. Therefore, cutting out anything that actively inhibits the production of collagen is a no-brainer for anyone looking to prolong the effects of an anti-cellulite treatment.

3. Regular exercise

Let’s bust one more cellulite myth right here. You can sweat it out at a spin class several times a week, employ a personal trainer, even run a marathon, and still have cellulite.

However, whilst dedication to squats and lunges won’t necessarily get rid of cellulite, sitting still all day definitely gives your dimples more of an excuse to flourish. Regular cardio exercise increases fat loss and when combined with strength training, you can expect more toned and defined muscles to result. This has the flattering effect of making any dimples look smoother too.

4. A healthy diet

Firstly, decreasing excess body fat can reduce the appearance of cellulite, so if you’re carrying some extra pounds, getting back to a healthy weight will help. But it’s not the only way your diet contributes to your dimply thighs.

Eating more than your fair share of processed, refined and fatty foods can also lead to poor circulation, which makes your body’s digestive processes more sluggish. With toxins lurking for longer, you’re more prone to developing cellulite.

Alternatively, ditching the ready meals and packing your diet with lots of hard-working antioxidants can counteract the cell damage that’s often lurking wherever you find cellulite. Vitamins A, C and E, manganese, zinc, selenium and copper are all great for giving some extra oomph to dermal cells.

5. Massage

Ask any experts about cellulite and they’re guaranteed to talk about improving lymphatic drainage.

The fluid in the lymphatic system helps remove waste and toxins from our tissues. If it builds up, so does all the bad stuff that also causes cellulite.

In a similar way that your heart pumps blood through your blood vessels, the lymphatic system relies on the movement of muscles to prevent fluid building up. Cellulite massagers and body brushing helps by increasing circulation, stimulating those muscles and, as a result, reducing excessive amounts of fluid in areas that contain cellulite.

So my cellulite isn’t a lost cause

We don’t think so. Cellulite is well known for being stubborn and in the past has been resistant to many of our attempts to obliterate it. But by understanding the science behind the dimples, there are now great cellulite treatments like CelluClear that work with your natural biology to stop cellulite in its tracks.
